Surrounded by love, Bill Walker of Calgary left us and moved more fully into the loving presence of God, on April 13, 2008. Inez will cherish wonderful memories of over 55 years of love and marriage. Bill was very proud of his family who loved him dearly, appreciated his love, support and guidance: son, Bob (Rita) Walker; daughter, Deb (Brent) Iantkow; son Russell (Brian) Mitchell-Walker; grandchildren Tyler Iantkow; Alyssa (Jared) & Brianne Walker; Tyler “too” & Cody Walker.
Bill was also deeply loved by brothers and sisters, Jim (Dorothy); Dot, Mae (Bob) Gracey; and Jack (Donna); and he held a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews, as well as many of the young men and women who lived in the family home over the years. Bill will be pleased to once again be with those who have gone before him: parents, Vera and Clancy Walker; and brother Jim.
Bill was born in Angusville, Manitoba and moved to Grenfell in 1943 where he spent the rest of his youth. Following high school he worked at the Dominion Bank and was transferred to Calgary in 1951, where he met Inez. They were married in 1952 and had three children, Bob, Deb, and Russell.
Bill loved golfing, travel, cruising, bowling, watching sports, curling (before wintering in Arizona), playing pool and cards, singing in choirs, as well as gatherings with family and friends. For 16 years he enjoyed winters in Mesa, Arizona where Trail Riders Holiday Park became his second home and supportive community. He worked for Texaco Exploration for 32 years and retired in 1990 from Imperial Oil.
Always willing to help, he volunteered for years as a driver with the VRRI, was Envelope Steward and Hi-C Counsellor for Southminster United Church, and other church commitments, Bingo Coordinator and Caller for Trail Riders, Golf Starter at Lakeview Golf Course, canvassed for various charities & organizations, and represented the United Way for Elderstar Retiree Group
A very special tribute must be paid to the outstanding and supportive Staff and Doctor at Southwood Hospice who took such wonderful care of Bill during his short stay. A celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at St. Matthew’s United Church (2039 – 26A Street S.W.) on April 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
