WADDY, William Charles “Billy”

August 31, 1952 – November 29, 2013

It is with utmost sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who, in the early morning hours of November 29, 2013 with his family by his side succumbed to complications from pneumonia at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Born on August 31, 1952 in Calgary, Alberta to Charlie and Irene Waddy, Billy is the youngest of four children, and was the “all-important” first boy. Billy grew up in a house just off 17th Ave SW, near to the Model/Palm Dairies where his Father worked until retirement. Like his sisters before him, Bill spent some time working there as well. It was in part due to this time spent working in the Dairy that the four Waddy children credit their desire to seek a post-secondary education.

Billy began his career with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in Penticton, British Columbia in 1982, while at the same time attending classes enroute to graduating as a Certified General Accountant in 1987. In 1988, Billy moved his family back to Calgary and continued to work for the CRA until his tragic accident in February, 2013.

While Billy’s patience (or lack thereof) was something of legend, Billy was passionate about life and strove to bring laughter to everything he did. In addition to being a dedicated father and brother, he was an attentive friend and neighbor, who was seemingly able to befriend everyone that he met, and lighten any room he stepped into with his booming voice and unmistakable laugh.

Billy will be lovingly remembered by his two sons Blair (Fela) and Gordon (Sharmane), his three grandsons Chase, Nathan & Lucas, and his three older sisters Lorraine (Bill), Doreen and Linda (Gene), his special friend Paula Martin, extended family and many friends . He was predeceased by his father Charlie and his mother Irene.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Calgary Family Services – #200, 1000 – 8th Ave S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2P 3M7 or calgaryfamily.org.

In living memory of Bill Waddy, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  2. Mr and Mrs Max Yakimishyn :

It is with great sadness that we send our Condolences. He was our neighbour, friend and confident. We enjoyed many happy hours together either at his place or ours. Our Bonfires in the summer months were second to none. We have missed him for many months now but feel blessed he is finally at rest. We will forever look across the road and see you mowing lawn or trimming trees. You will be in our hearts forever.
Your best friends Max and Beth

  3. I first met Bill in the mid 90s and consider that I was very fortunate to know him as both as a colleague and friend. He was always very devoted to his work and his friends and family and hid a softness beneath a sometimes gruff exterior. Bill lit up whatever room he was in and was one of those rare people that almost everyone liked. Even if you disagreed with something he said or did it was impossible to stay angry with him for very long.
I will always remember the trips we shared around the Prairies and to Houston and will miss him dearly.
Condolences to Bill’s family and friends.

  6. I was saddened to read of Bill’s passing in the Ottawa Citizen, today.

I, like Bill, worked for the CRA, at the Ottawa Headquarters International Tax Directorate. Bill was an International Tax specialist in Calgary (Prairie Region) and I had the pleasure of working with him during my time at the ITD. I will always remember his “booming voice and unmistakable laugh”…and that he still owes me a beer from the last time we were together many years ago. Know that Bill had made many friends during his career with the CRA and that he will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.

    Ron Holowka, Ottawa, Ontario

Bill was a wonderful guy, the life of the party & a true warrior to the end. I had the pleasure of knowing Bill since March of 1993 when I first met him on a course in Ottawa. 14. I would like to offer my condolences for your loss. I worked with Bill for many years and he was a professional, always managed to lighten the situation and break the tension, his laugh always made me smile, his “booming” voice always gave him away, and generally I enjoyed working with him very much. In recent years I ran into him occassionally on my walk into work and we always managed to have a few laughs. I am saddened by his passing.

  15. I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. We were very good friends in the sixties. We as all kids do, went our separate ways. I married, moved from Calgary as did Bill. We returned to Calgary in the ninety’s and I began working at the Oakridge Coop and low and behold who did I run into but Bill over the years. I would see Bill at the store and have some great chats. I will miss our visits. Bill was a great guy and a good friend.

  17. Santino Di Libero :

For the little time we shared together while working at CRA, I really got to know and admire Bill for the great talent he had to be able to make someone feel good inside just by his presence. We spent some great moments together in Calgary, Penticton, and during his travels to Quebec. His passing was a shock and unexpected to me! Just thinking back to those times, the stories and laughter we shared, makes me realize that I will miss him greatly. To Bill’s family and friends, I would like to offer my sincere condolences for your great loss. He will be remembered forever!
