WACK, Nathan Russell

WACK, Nathan Russell
March 9, 1994 – Red Deer, Alberta
January 4, 2015 – Ghost Lake Reservoir, Alberta

On January 4, 2015, Nathan was tragically taken from us in a motor vehicle accident as a passenger while camping, an activity he enjoyed so much.

Nathan spent his early childhood growing up in Red Deer. During that time he learned to fish, gold-pan, hike, camp, tinker, garden and enjoy the outdoors with his family. Nathan was a precocious and inquisitive child.

In 2000, Nathan and his family moved to Calgary. Nathan had many wonderful memories with his family. Trips to Florida, Disney and the Grand Canyon to name a few. Spending time with his family and pets was something Nathan loved. He truly enjoyed the special one on one time he had with each of us.

Nathan created lifelong friendships with everyone he met. Those friendships included amazing adventures such as camping, fishing, off-roading, remote control trucks, tinkering on cars, campfires, video gaming, building computers, cooking, archery and playing pranks.

Nathan was the kindest young man anyone ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was a hard worker, loved life, his family, his friends and his pets immensely. He had a sharp sense of wit and humour. Nathan was always the first one there to lend a helping hand. He was apprenticing for Marlborough Ford and was to start the SAIT Ford Asset program on January 5th.

“A great man is one who leaves others at a loss after he is gone”
-Paul Valery

Nathan was a great man whose memory will be forever honoured with kindness.

Nathan is survived by his:

All our pets especially his beloved cat Suze

Helen Benoit of Rocky Mountain House

Bea Wack of Grande Prairie
Roy and Diane Leshchyshyn of Bon Accord
Thanasi and Flora Tavouktsoglou of Edmonton

Nathan is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Nathan was predeceased by his Grandfather Adam Wack.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, Nathan would have appreciated donations to the Calgary Humane Society at

There will be the option to view Nathan for those wishing, and after the funeral service, those who are in the foyer standing area can visit with Nathan in the chapel before coming upstairs to visit with friends and family for a small gathering with some of Nathan’s favorite food. There will be a video camera in the reception area for the option to share how you knew Nathan and a memorable experience for the family’s healing in memory of him.

In living memory of Nathan Wack a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

  3. Annette my heart is so sad for you Tim and Brad. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Such a nice write up and a real tribute to Nathan and the loving person he had become under the loving guidance of you and Tim and the role model he was for Brad, who was so lucky to have had his influence as a big brother. Planting a tree will be a living memory and the effort to have a guardrail installed on the road is so thoughtful. God bless all of you and Take care always.

  7. On behalf of our family we offer you our sincerest condolences. Our son Easton went to school with Nathan for many years and was privileged to call Nathan his friend. Since the boys graduated from high school they have spent an enormous amount of time together doing various things. Easton thought of Nathan as his brother and will always remember what a “trooper” he was. He was always up for whatever they were going to do and never complained about anything. Nathan and Easton were part of a very special group of friends and I hope it helps you to rest easy to know that he will be missed and never forgotten. Nathan made a huge impact on Easton’s life!

  12. They say that the best way to honor someone who is not with us anymore is to continue living our life and keep their memory alive through everyday events. Nathan would have wanted that and expected nothing less from us. Rest in peace Nathan.

Nathan was a wonderful young man, full of life, had a kind heart, loved life, and was finding his place. It is sad he was taken before he could fulfill those aspirations. What he does leave are the memories of his life and the influence he had on the people he touched. A great man will live on.

  14. My heart is with the family in their time of grief. I was greatly honored to have worked with Nathan, and to have been with him as a pallbearer as we said our final goodbyes. A friend of mine shared a poem that he wrote, a reminder that though a person may have passed, they will always be with us and we should honor them with the good memories we have of our time together.

    “Hello from the Other Side”

I am here, on the other side,
Do not be sad for me, the light here is indescribably beautiful,
I am most comfortable, pain-free, and everyone is wonderful here,

The long, pre-dying days that marked my passing are cast adrift,
Fading already from my memory, so please do not be lost in grief,
Like me, hold only loving, eternally grateful thoughts for the precious
times on earth we spent together.

Celebrate the priceless moments of happiness and togetherness shared,
All the hard times and obstacles we overcame together, our unbreakable

I am in the song of the bird in the morning,
I will call to you occasionally on the wind,
You will hear me in the joyous laughter of the

My presence will calm and reassure you from
    time to time;

Hello from the other side, it is not good bye, just “till we meet again,”
I will come to you in your dreams and comfort you,
Take great care of your sweet self and courageous spirit,
Do not be bitter and wallow in sorrow, for many others need your
Indomitable strength now and for many years hence,

You cannot believe how peaceful, joyful, and glorious it is in heaven,
When you pass from that plane to the next and you are with God,
And you are rejoined with all our loved ones who have passed,
You will know not to be afraid, for He does indeed walk with thee,
But mark the rest and the entire breadth of your life with joy and gratitude,
For only with self-less service and determination to help all the needy souls
of the earthly plane, can you truly redeem your soul in the eyes of God,

You will see my eyes in the blue-green of the oceans,
You will experience my peaceful, easy feelings when
sitting in front of a warm fire, or seeing the dawn,
Your spirit will soar with happiness when you commune
with the wondrous creatures of God, … which we are all

So, mark my life there with celebration and hope, and mark your own infinite soul
with a great and rewarding life…… Hello from the other side.

  15. Today, was a very hard & emotionally painful day. It hurt so bad seeing a great man who had such a bright future ahead of himself, let go by the world. As kids I can remember how well we got along, laughed & just enjoyed life together, from time to time! It’s gonna be harder sitting at all these family get togethers & not having you to talk to about everything. You’re a sweet, kind and caring person. I’m glad you were in my life for that time that you were & I wish it would have been longer, but there are some things we cannot control. I love you man, Rest in Peace
