August 26, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Maureen passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre on Monday, August 26, 2013, at the age of 81 years.

Maureen was born in Ceylon, Saskatchewan, where she lived with her 3 sisters and 4 brothers: Ellen (Tony) DeSantis, Pat (George) Rissling, Bernadette (Gerard) Heaney, Tom (Lorna-Mae) Reidy, Frank –predeceased (Giv) Reidy, Emmet – predeceased (Maryann) Reidy, and Vince(Wynn) Reidy. Family was very important to Maureen and she often spoke affectionately of her numerous nieces and nephews. Maureen graduated from the Regina Grey Nuns hospital in 1953 and went on to nurse in Prelate and Unity, Saskatchewan before settling in to Calgary. There, she had a long career at Calgary General and then Peter Lougheed Hospital. She met her soul mate Lou Violini later in life. They met at church and were married April 17, 1971. The two of them loved dancing, playing cards, and going to the horse track, among many other shared passions. Lou pre-deceased her in 2008. After retiring, Maureen found more time to pursue her love of knitting, sewing and other crafts. She was an active member of CWL, sat on her Parish Council, and did Pastoral Care for many years. Maureen was proud of her Irish heritage and often spoke of her trip to Ireland with her family.

She will be sorely missed by her stepchildren Rob Faschel and Pat (Paul) Brown; grandchildren Nicole (Chris) East, Telesa Brown, Tara (Colin) Robertson, Lindsay Goldthorpe, and Ryan Goldthorpe. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren that she loved dearly.
