VINCENT – Ronald “Ron” Earl

November 17, 1929 – January 15, 2011

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of a dear husband, father and grandfather; Ron passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the age of 81 years.

Born in Brownsville, Ontario on November 17, 1929, the son of the late Dwight and Edna Vincent. Ron spent his teen years in St. Thomas, ON and was very active in the Scouting organization as Cub Leader at Grace United Church for many years. There, he met and married his wife Barbara on August 23, 1952. In 1955, Ron joined Scouts Canada professional staff and served as a Scout Executive in Lethbridge, Calgary, and Toronto. He retired in 1989 and was awarded the Silver Maple Leaf by the Governor General of Canada in February 1990, after thirty-five years of service.

Ron and his wife Barbara were active square dancers with the Gadabouts and Prairie Winds Clubs. The last three years they have also enjoyed taking lessons with the Acey Plus Club. One of Ron’s greatest joys was building model ships and he spent long happy hours in his downstairs workshop making sure each detail was exactly right.

Ron was the much loved husband and best friend for fifty-eight years of Barbara (nee Weskett) Vincent; loving father to the late Dwight Vincent and Laurie Nicholson (nee Vincent); proud grandfather to his two grandsons, Christopher Nicholson and Bradley Nicholson (Ashley).

A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Scouts Foundation, 2140 Brownsea Drive N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 3G9, Telephone: (403) 283-4993.

  7. Please add my thoughts of sympathy to the many I know you are receiving over the loss of Ron. The service today brought back the many times we we shared both good and bad for the advancement of Calgary Region scouting. Norm’s remarks about Ron’s intuition to collect good people to the cause brought to mind the fact that there were at least 6 Regional Presidents out of his recruiting. An amazing record really and such work from him was only typical and it made the region so strong.
I know you and the family will miss him as do we all who knew and worked with him.
Your closing poem was beautiful and Laurie’s was the nicest amd most heart felt tribute of the whole day.
    My best personal regards
    Al Briggs.
