VERMEULEN, Marilyn Gail (Patience)

September 13, 1943 – January 10, 2013

Gail Vermeulen, beloved wife of David, passed away on January 10, 2013 at the age of 69 years, after living with lung cancer for two years. She passed peacefully with her family by her side.

Gail was born in Swan River, MB and grew up on the family farm near Minitonas, MB. She trained as an LPN and later had a very successful career with RBC. Following her marriage to David, they lived in 18 different communities from the far North in MB, BC, NWT, AB, ON, SK and finally retiring in Vancouver in 2000. Following their retirement, David and Gail traveled extensively throughout the USA as well as to Scotland, the Canadian East Coast, India and Africa. In 2003 they moved to Calgary to be closer to family; particularly the grandchildren. Gail’s career as Granny was certainly her most rewarding. She loved her grandchildren without reserve. Gail was also an accomplished painter and artist. She was active in her community and was a tireless volunteer. She was most proud of her work with CARZ, which resulted in alleviating some of the suffering in the community of Roan, Zambia.

Gail is survived by her husband David, her children Marc (Stacey) and Vicki (Christopher); mother Roywena; siblings Barry, Blair (Marjorie), Thelma (Ken), Darlene and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her seven perfect grandchildren Spencer, James and Kate Vermeulen and Matthew, David, Simon and Abigail McPhee.

Gail was predeceased by her father Pete; brothers Harvey and Jim and her second child, Sherrilyn.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas United Church (100 Hawkwood Boulevard N.W.) on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through For those wishing to make a donation in Gail’s memory, please consider Child Haven at 19014 Concession 7 Maxville, ON K0C 1T0 or; a charity especially important to Gail.
