VENABLES, James “Jim” Kenneth

August 27, 1955 – April 2, 2012

James Kenneth Venables, known to the world as Jim or VE6JKV, passed away in his sleep on Monday, April 2, 2012.

He was predeceased by his parents Art and Ivy Venables; and father-in-law Herbert Haschke.

Jim is survived by his wife and soul mate of thirty-four years Karin Venables. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Helga Haschke; three brothers, Ted, Robert and Gary Venables ; and the daughter of his heart, Melanie Goldsworthy.

Jim was an avid amateur radio operator who is now a Silent Key. He had so many interests and friends that kept him living hard rather than waiting to be overcome by the severe heart disease that plagued him for the last twelve years of his life. His sense of humour will be missed but any and all that knew him will remember him with a smile. His amazing accumulation of knowledge and the ability to remember it all will be missed by those he taught.

Jim, I will always love you.

Memorial Services and Celebrations will be held in the future. If you wish to be notified, please contact kuv@shaw.ca. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Salvation Army, 420 – 9 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0R9 Telephone: (403) 410-1111, www.salvationarmy.org.

In living memory of Jim Venables, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.

  3. Karin, your rock and the rock of many others has gone physically but never gone in all of our hearts. He will be sadly missed on the physical plane, but he and especially his humor, will live on everytime we think of him and he will still have us laughing 🙂 Jim taught us well – he will be remembered with much love for his ability to live, love, forgive and be happy! RIP Jim.

  7. My heart and thoughts are with you now and the days to come Karin, The two of you have been there for each other through challenges few may ever know, and Jim’s strong spirit remains with you and will continue to be there for you as you heal and live. 6 years ago, Jim stepped forward to help me on projects that have been life changing. I never met him in person. I will miss him. I wish you strength, love, and kindness as you step forward, figuratively and literally overcoming your current physical adversity, and thus honoring him. I am very sorry for your loss.

Karin you are a strong lady and I have know you for 34 plus years,if there is any thing I can help you with just ask. I had known Jim for 35 plus years, he was my best man at my wedding and I was his best man. We were dive buddy’s for 10 years together and many other hobbies over that 35 years. He came to see me when I worked for NTF communications and I sort of talked him into becoming a radio opperator, of course Karin wasn’t far behind as they loved to do everything together. Jim had a snapy wit and I got to know and join in with some of his antiques, we did have our disagreements but what are good friends without the odd disagreement. We were like brothers and he will be missed more then I can say!!
