Lydia died peacefully at age 85 on the evening of January 10, 2014, in her home at the Newport Harbour Care Centre in Calgary, AB.
Lydia was born in Pré-Ste-Marie, SK and grew up in Bjorkdale, SK. At 16, she moved to Winnipeg, MB where she received her diploma from Nu-Fashion School of Hair and Cosmetology before returning to Saskatchewan. In 1946, Lydia married Peter Tymochko, who remained her devoted husband for sixty years until his death in 2006. Lydia worked alongside Peter on their farm near Chelan, SK until they retired to Saskatoon in 1967. In 2007, Lydia moved to Calgary to live with her youngest daughter, Brenda. Always ready with a quick wit, Lydia is remembered as a fierce card player, avid gardener and consummate knitter who loved sharing her crafts with others.
She is dearly missed by her sisters, Delia Knull, Rose Wittman (Ed) and Irene Hendricks (Les); as well as by her three children, Carol Drapak (John) and sons Ken, Kevin and Jonathan; Donald Tymusko and daughter Deveilyau; and Brenda Burns (Blair Budd) and children Michael Burjack (Collette) and Rachelle. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Mathon, and two sisters, Alice Gidych and Luciene “Sandy” La Trace.
