Vern Tweten passed away peacefully at the Beverly Care Centre in Calgary on Monday, December 1, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Vern met his loving wife Anne while he was stationed in Worthing during WWII with KOCR, Calgary Tanks. Vern and Anne were married soon after the end of the war and settled in the Penhold area of Alberta. Vern held various jobs in the oil industry around central and northern Alberta. After Marg and Joey were born they moved to Calgary where Dad started his career as a professional transport driver for Trimac Transportation. Dad retired from Trimac in 1983 after a very successful career and numerous safety awards, one of which included an all expense paid trip for two to Hawaii in 1980. He and Anne were also honoured to participate in the celebration of the anniversary of the end of World War II as guests of Holland. Dad’s family was his greatest joy, celebrating special family occasions and he loved nothing more than, and much to their delight, to play with his grandchildren. “Grampa” was always present for all of his children’s and his grandchildren’s achievements, from kindergarten concerts to graduations. “Dad” will always be remembered for his quiet strength and his good humour. Vern is survived by his loving children, Joanne (Joey) and Rick Ippolito; his son and daughter-in-law Art and Sheryl Tweten; son-in-law Ray Parsons; his grandchildren, Erin, Chris, Darcy, Danny, and Brianne Ippolito, and Chad and Jason Tweten, all of Calgary. Vern was predeceased by his wife Anne on April 24, 2002, and his daughter Margaret Parsons on October 21, 2001.
