We were very, very sad to hear the news about this accident and Wendy’s passing. Wendy and my mom were very good friends up until my mother passed away from breast cancer almost 14 years ago. We have kept in touch with her over the years and will miss her. She was always interested in what was happening in our lives and happy for us as we have celebrated milestones over the years. In fact, I have a message saved on my phone from last Thursday from her wondering how we are doing and checking in on me as I am due to have a baby in the next few weeks. She was a very good friend to our family. Wendy, we will miss your kind heart and loving spirit very much.

I was sad to learn of Wendy’s passing. She gave life and energy to those with Celiac Disease and showed us a way to bake with new and different nutrious grains rather than using the “white” flours available to us. She will be missed.

Truly a beautiful, gentle woman. I had the priviledge of being Wendy’s hairstylists and spent many endearing moments with her. I had actually just seen her for our reg. visit. She LOVED to talk about her children — she adored you. She had much wisdom and compassion and we spent many hours together discussing heartfelt matters. I always felt touched by her. To the Turnbull family my heart is so open to all of you. I was blessed to have known Wendy –

    Wendy I love you….
    Joan

Dear Shauna & Nathan: I can’t tell you how sad I was to hear of your mom’s tragic passing. She just was here in Lethbridge to visit in December. We hadn’t seen each other in over 40yrs but have always stayed in contact, so when she called that she wanted to see me was a wonderful surprise. We went through our LPN training together and lived together for 2 yrs. I have many lovely memories of her friendship. Please accept my condolences

Wendy was a lovely, generous and kind person. She loved her family, her children and little Jack very much and it was an honour for me to be such a close friend to her. To be able to celebrate so many wonderful occasions in Wendy’s life, especially over the last few years has been a blessing in my life. I know that each person who loved Wendy, will miss her very much. She truly was a special woman who will be remembered fondly by many.

  18. Henry and Lois Malta :

We were saddened to learn of Wendy’s untimely death and offer our condolences to all who knew her and especially her family. I replaced Wendy as Vice President when she retired from the board of the Calgary Celiac Association. We became friends and my wife Lois and I were sometimes her assistants in making pancakes at the annual pancake breakfast. The day she was tragically and needlessly killed, I was volunteering information on gluten free food preparation to the Chef of Center Street Church whose café serves a church of 7000 people. He was interested in baking ideas and Wendy’s book immediately came to mind. In honor of Wendy’s kind spirit and selfness volunteerism we are donating a copy of her book and some other materials to Center Street Church cafe.(Ironically, Wendy was killed at the same crosswalk where Lois and I were rear ended by a reckless driver last November while waiting for a mother and baby to cross.)
