With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mom, Violet (Vi) Sarah Traptow (nee Newton) on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 86 years.
Mom was born in Penhold, Alberta on February 5, 1929 to Sarah and Charles Newton, the eighth of nine children. Mom was born and raised on the family farm until she was 18, when she left home to attend Mount Royal College in Calgary. Upon graduation Violet worked for Revelstoke lumber and the Alberta Government before meeting the love of her life, Lloyd, at Central United Church. Mom balanced motherhood and working with Dad as Office Manager at Taylor Signs until they both retired in 1996.
In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling, which included many trips to Maui, RVing around Alberta and BC, and many memorable vacations with family at destinations around North America. She loved to help people, which included volunteer work with Central United Church, Banff Trail Community, the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and other organizations. Mom’s true passions were her family, friends, dancing, cooking/baking and aquasize. Mom was a warm, genuine lady who loved being around people. We love her deeply and miss her smiles, hugs, giggles and laughter.
Violet is survived by her children and grandchildren, Keith (Laurel), Elliott and Denton; Paul (Shawna), Josh, Jarrett, and Joel; Karen Dunnet (Bruce), Sarah and Marshall; Murray (Kathy), Bryson, Tyler, and Luke; as well as her brother-in-law, Doug (Ella) of Victoria. Violet was predeceased by her husband of sixty-one years Lloyd, in September 2014 and all of her siblings.
Violet’s children would like to thank the staff of Bowview Manor, Mom’s home for almost three years, for their compassionate and dedicated care of Mom during her final years.
A Celebration of Violet’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. It would be wonderful if you would wear something purple in mom’s honour.
