Lil went to be with her Lord Jesus after passing away suddenly surrounded by all of her family at the Foothills Hospital on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the age of 76.
Lil was a devoted and loving wife for fifty-four years to Rev. John Torley. She was born on July 6, 1927 in Liverpool, England and immigrated to Calgary in 1966 with her family. Besides her ever loving husband John, Lil is also survived by her three daughters, Sylvia Benson, Marg (Paul) Viergutz and Chris (Rob) McCormack, all of Calgary. Nana will be sorrowfully missed by her five grandchildren, Jan (Brett), Scott, James, Brad, and Angie (Mirek). Lil is also survived by her siblings, Ron (Joan) Freckleton and Sylvia (Bill) Spivak of Canada and Elsie, Frankie and Johnny (Rose) of England as well as many nieces and nephews both in Canada and England. She will be greatly missed by the parishioners of St. James Anglican Church, St. Luke’s Anglican Church and all of the people to whom she lovingly ministered alongside her husband. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Bill Benson. Lil will be forever with the Lord and always in our hearts.
