TOFT, Ina Janet

June 29, 1921 – August 6, 2012

Ina Janet Toft of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on August 6, 2012 at the age of 91 years. The sixth child of Grace and David Renwick, Ina was born on June 29, 1921 at Wakopa, Manitoba.

After receiving training in health care in Winnipeg, Ina moved to Souris, Manitoba where she worked in a doctor’s office. In 1949, she moved to Calgary, AB where she continued to work in the medical profession.

On November 19, 1952, she married Harold Toft and in 1958 gave birth to a son named David George. Ina’s life was busy and full with family and friends and she got great pleasure from gardening and maintaining her home. In the 1970s she returned to the workforce in Clinical Dietetics at the Calgary General Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 1986.

A great love of nature and the mountains kept Ina active. She got much pleasure from the trips and adventure she went on with Harold and David, and in later years with her close friends. She loved to take the less travelled trail and to “prowl around” exploring the countryside that she loved so much. Family was always the most important thing to her and every holiday was celebrated around her dining table with lots of great food, much laughter and joy.

In 2009, Ina moved to the Royal Park Retirement Residence and was there until her passing. As with the other chapters of her life, Ina’s days were busy and filled with new friends and activities. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and the family for whom she made life special.

Ina is survived by her two sisters, Isabelle Rowe and Ada (Scott) Meggison, both of Manitoba, and numerous nephews and nieces. Ina was predeceased by her husband Harold Toft in 1979 and her precious son David in 2004.

Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N. W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Ina Toft, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES.
