TITMUS, Coleen (nee Smith)

June 4, 1933 – Carman, MB
June 16, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Coleen Titmus, beloved wife of Don of Calgary, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 at the age of 81 years.

Coleen was born in Carman, Manitoba, raised in Brantford, Ontario and was the youngest of 12 children. Coleen was an athlete and excelled at baseball competing well into her 60’s. She also coached baseball and organized local teams for her children. Coleen was the ultimate organizer and leader. She was involved in her local church, the neighbourhood park association, parent teacher association, Cerebral Palsy Association, Mother’s March of Dimes and countless other bake sales and garage sales for charity. Along with her active life and raising 4 children, Coleen ran a successful small business and moved up the ranks in Avon Canada to become a district manager. Coleen was always there to serve with a smile and often a twirl and a dance. This carried through with her to her final days!

Coleen is survived by Don, her husband of 63 years; four children, Don Titmus Jr., Yvonne (Titmus) Anderson, Kelly (Titmus) Smeeth, and Jim Titmus; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Coleen’s Life will be held at Calgary East Church of the Nazarene (5420-8th Avenue S.E. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday June 18, 2014 at 3:00 pm. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Many thanks to the wonderful team at McKenzie Towne Long Term Care for being such good hosts to Coleen, during her last few months. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made in Coleen’s name to the Grief Services Ministry at Calgary East Church of the Nazarene, (5420-8th Avenue S.E., Calgary AB T2A 3P6).

In living memory of Coleen Titmus, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside Memorial Chapel, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E., Calgary, AB Telephone: 403-248-8585.

I remember Aunt Coleen’s laugh – infectious and gregarious. Whenever I was heading to the Calgary area, she always wanted me to come visit and stay awhile. She had many “remember when” stories to share. A giving and loving heart, Aunt Coleen will be missed.
Love from Cathy & Dan and family

  3. Terri Ann (Iorio) Tabak :

We were neighbours of Coleen and her family and our mother was a good friend of Coleen. I have many fond memories of Coleen, her fabulous baking, especially the cinnamon rolls, being invited to weekends at the cottage in Long Point, and for a while as a teenager I was even one of her ‘Avon Ladies’. She was a wonderful woman and I send my deepest condolences to Don, Don Jr. Yvonne, Kelly and Jim.

Many wonderful memories of times spent with Coleen and her family. I think of her and the good times we had often and my prayers are with Don and her family at this time. Jeff called me early today and said to send his condolences to Jimmy and the rest of the family. Many good times at the rink and helping with the snack bar over at the park. School garage sales and Church bake sales. Coleen was a very busy lady and always happy to help out

  7. I was very sorry to read in the newspaper today of the passing of Coleen. She was a great coach and then a great team mate. She shared her family with my family and we spent many a Christmas morning with them. I have many memories of our times together. It now makes my visit to Calgary a few years ago so much more meaningful. We had a good time “catching up” on what was happening with the kids and grand kids.
To Don, Don Jr., Bonnie, Kelly and Jim, my thoughts and prayers are with you today. Be strong for each other and remember all the good times you had with your Mom.

  8. Margaret (Elsden) Howard :

My heartfelt sympathies are extended to the family on the loss of their beloved wife & mom & grandmother. There is a huge void left now Coleen is not with you. May you all treasure the memories you have made with her. It will help to keep her spirit alive.
I learned this unfortunate news from Aunt Doreen a few days ago. She also informed me of the passing of one of the other sisters, Mabel, about 3 weeks ago. Doubly sad news. The Smith sisters were a very active, lively group and now there are only 2 left to carry the torch.
I remember well Coleen’s hospitality when my brother Rod passed away. We flew out to Calgary and stayed at her & Uncle Don’s place. We were warmly greeted and very comforted during that difficult time. I extend prayers and strength to all of you at this time. Be there for each other, laugh, cry and share lots of stories. It all helps to get through……… Marg (Fran’s daughter) Howard
