Mae I. Thompson departed from Hillcrest Home in Calgary, August 27th 2014 at the age of 85.

The oldest of three daughters born to John and Isabelle Conn; she left Pioneer Mine BC for the Royal Jubilee Hospital Nursing School; following this with service as a public health nurse in the BC interior and the RCAF. Her marriage in 1957 to Edward Thompson was a loving partnership, interrupted only by his death in 1997, and they were the best of parents to their four children. She returned to nursing in the 1970s with the Ottawa Civic Hospital. A much loved sister, mother in law, grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend; Mae was often a pillar of strength to friends and neighbours who needed one and never shunned a hard duty. Her nurturing side also manifested in an extraordinary talent as a gardener. She prized self-reliance, welcomed new experiences, and appreciated the cultivation of the mind. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Society Canada would be appreciated by those who love her. A funeral mass for Mae will be held on 10th, October at 11:00 AM, at St Pius X, Calgary.

  4. I met Mae only a few times when she visited Panorama with Jen, Rob and their family, but she was a spark of light when I spoke with her. She engaged in conversations with me and my children, interested in what they were doing and their future plans. She was someone who gave to the world, and this was apparent to all those who ever had the opportunity to meet her. My deepest condolences to her family.
