Condolence Messages

  1. Debbie and Darren Loraas :

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We will never understand why Mark was taken so suddenly, or why he left before you were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we will begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived. And that his life gave everyone many memories too beautiful to forget.

I worked with Mark out in Strathmore for many years and am so saddened to hear of his passing. He left with all of us who worked with him many memories of his stories, about “his boys” and “his wife” and all the things he held so dear to his heart. I know memories of him will always stay with those of us who were blessed to work with him. Our hearts are with you as you say good-bye, and I hope the memories you hold dear give you some measure of comfort.

Mark will be missed by all. His zest for life and unique outlook is something that is very rare in our time. Our family knew Mark and the Thompson clan for over 25 years, and while we struggled sometimes to keep in touch on a regualr basis, when we did get together it was just like “old times”. My friend you will be missed!

  14. My heart goes out to the loved ones of a man that I could call, “my friend”. Our friendship dates back to grade school when back in Ponoka we competed vigorously against each other in every sport imaginable. Mark was by far a better swimmer and basketball player. Our athletic pursuits diverged and by high school his sport of choice was basketball. Our passion for excelling bonded us and allowed us to not only compete against one another but to also savour good times in one another’s company. Competition may have been our divining rod for earning each other’s respect. In my mind he was an honest, simple, caring and beyond all else; honourable man. He was this and more in the capacity of a husband, father, brother, uncle and son. The world has lost a role player. His family has lost a point guard. There will be no more three pointers. Mark’s court presence will be sadly missed.

  15. I worked with Mark when he first started with the Assertive Community Treatment Program and his character, personality brought a lot to our team and more importantly to our clients. He brightened many peoples lives with the various programs and events he arranged. Those that know Mark, he would go out of the way to help anyone and enhance there quailty of life. He will be greatly missed by all. My sincere sympathy for his family.

Our sincere condolences for the sudden loss of Mark.

I (Dora) had the great honour of having Mark work with me on Lawncrest 1 in the 1980’s. A more caring man you would not find. I will not forget how Mark and the other staff at that time took on the challenge of making those less fortunate patients on this very disturbed Unit feel important and so loved.

Our deepest sympathy to Mark’s wife and family. Both Mark and I started our first day of school together and played on some of the same teams throughout our school years and did all the things kids do when they are growing up. He was a great athlete and a person you could really laugh with. I will always remember the camping trips he took with our family and how he could make my parents laugh till their sides hurt. He will be missed.

I was so saddened to learn of Mark’s passing and wish the family a heart full of wonderful memories. I was privileged to have welcomed Mark to the mental health team in Strathmore. He brought to our team a new, rejuvinated, vision of community care that allowed us all to be able to help so many more people, where they lived. His warmth, humour, and honest heart are the character traits that most reflect Mark in my memories. Take care family…
