August 19, 1912 – April 26, 2012
Phyllis Thomas of Calgary passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the age of 99 years.
Phyl was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and also lived in Moscow, ID, Grande Prairie, AB and Crossfield, AB before moving to Calgary with her parents in 1925. There, she attended Crescent Heights High School and Garbutt Business College before moving on to a lifelong career with the Hudson’s Bay Company. In her youth, Phyl was known for her skills on the basketball court and later in life, for her accomplishments as a painter; a pursuit she took on with relish in her retirement years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Charles Robinson of Vancouver, BC, Carol Minutoli Tegrimi of Massaciuccoli, Italy and Melody Linda of Galiano Island, BC; five grandchildren, Melinda, Cameron, Torsten, Jennifer and Curtis; and four great-grandchildren, Muraco, Jesse, Stevie and Jackamo, all of BC. She was predeceased by her husband James in 1999. The out of town family wishes to extend special thanks to Phyl’s niece, Bonnie D’Antoni for her decades of devoted care and attention; neighbor, Patty McAlpine for her recent years as a caregiver and the staff at Bow View Manor for their kindness and compassion.
Honoring Phyllis’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Brenda Strafford Foundation (Bow View Manor).
