Teshima, Takao

It is with great sadness that the family of Takao Teshima announces his passing on June 12, 2008 at the age of 93 years. He leaves to mourn, with fond and loving memories, his children: Marie (Naozo) Konno, Roger (Lynne) Teshima, Louise (Larry) Sakamoto, Linda (Bob Hetherington) Teshima; six grandchildren: Cheryl Konno, Grant (Doreen) Konno, Kim (Keith) Publicover, Craig Sakamoto, Christopher Teshima and Michael Teshima; and five great-grandsons: Ryan, Nathan, and Ethan Konno, Nicholas and Jacob Publicover. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, Yoshiko; his son, Phil; his sister, Tokiko; his brothers, Nobuo and Yoshio. Takao was born in Terra Nova, B.C. on September 2, 1914. He married Yoshiko Matsui on January 25, 1941. They were evacuated to Taber in April of 1942 and he was employed as a farm labourer at that time. In 1965 his family moved to Calgary where he was employed as a greenhouse foreman at Pedersen Brothers’ Greenhouse until his retirement in 1983. He resided in Calgary until the time of his passing. Tak was a man who loved music, and shared his passion with his cherished friends in the Karaoke Club at the Nikkei Centre. He was an active member of the Kotobuki Kai, a seniors’ club where he enjoyed the weekly activities and wonderful companionship. Well into their senior years, both he and Yoshiko shared many adventures traveling with this group. He was also a member of the Calgary Buddhist Temple. Tak brought many smiles to all our faces through his sense of humour. He was someone who treasured, above all, his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Reverend James Martin officiating.
