Elvira Veronica Ternes, beloved wife of William of Calgary, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the age of 86 years.
Elvira and William were married in 1947, one month short of celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary. They owned and operated the Red and White grocery store in Beiseker, AB before moving to Calgary in 1956. Elvira and William have been members of Holy Name Parish since moving to Calgary and Elvira was a proud, long time member of the CWL.
Besides her loving husband William, Elvira is survived by son and daughter-in-law Gary and Jacqueline Ternes, daughter and son-in-law Janet and Gordon Loewen. She is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Elsie, Harold and Irene and David and Mary Heinzlmeir; a sister and brother-in-law, DonnaMae and John Timmermans; and sister-in-law Mary Plante. She will be fondly remembered by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Elvira was predeceased by daughter Caroline Shepherd (nee Ternes), and granddaughter Jodi Shepherd.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W) on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Stewart, Dr. Loehr, and all the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
