TAYLOR, Kenneth William

September 28, 1931 – December 13, 2014

Ken was born in Strathmore, Alberta and passed away there 83 years later. Fifty-seven years ago, he married Beth Fielder, and with her had four children; Joan (Shelly Osten), Tom (Jane), Clark (Cheryl) and Al (Tammy), 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grand children, 16 chickens and a tambourine.

With his dad, Harold, brother, Ross, and later his son, Clark, he farmed the family land at Langdon Corner for seven of those decades. Meanwhile, he had time to be one of the founding members of the Alberta Pioneer Auto Club and Pioneer Acres of Alberta. He was, at various times, the president of the Horseless Carriage Club, the Calgary Historical Society and the Alberta Archaeological Society. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Foothills Model T Club, the Military Collector’s Club and was a regular columnist for the World Airline Historical Society. He still had time to teach the Dale Carnegie public speaking courses, volunteer with the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede and with the Calgary Airport White Hatters. He also enjoyed travelling with Beth throughout North America, Russia, Europe, Britain, Australia, South America and Hawaii.

Ken and Beth were long time members of Langdon Baptist Church. Ken was an elder at Chestermere Christian Fellowship, and more recently, regularly attended Strathmore Alliance Church.

He was, first and foremost, a loving husband and family man, but also a farmer and a friend to many.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Eva, and by his brother, Clarence.

Funeral Services will be held at Strathmore Alliance Church (325 – 1st Avenue, Strathmore, Alberta) on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 2:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Strathmore Hospital for the exceptional care and love they provided to Ken over the past three weeks, so, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Strathmore District Health Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Condolence Messages

  1. I am saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. I had the pleasure of having Ken at The Country Farmhouse a couple of years ago and I was able to have a great visit with him. I remember him as a little girl growing up in the Cheadle area. Our thoughts and Prayers are with you all.

  3. Beth, Joan, Tom, Clark and Al,
Barb and I send our sympathy and condolences; unfortunately we’re both in Seattle and will still be the day of the funeral.
Although it was a sad day for us last Tuesday, we’re both happy we were able to reacquaint with you all, visit and most important have a small visit with Ken.
Although we never saw each other much from early family days, he was always one of my favourite cousins.
Best wishes in this difficult time.
May God be with you all.
    Phil and Barbara Bazant

    Dear Beth and Family,

We were saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. We always enjoyed our visits with you both at local events. Ken was an inspiration for many when it came to community involvement. I recall how I used to look up to him when I was a young boy growing up across the road from the Taylor farm. He will be missed. We spend our winters in Texas and won’t be able to attend the service on the 18th but will be thinking of you …Love from Nancy & Rod
