August 14, 1928 – April 10, 2013
John “Jack” Alexander Ingram Taylor, loving father and grandfather passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the age of 84 years.
Dad was born in Burnaby, BC. He was the first son born in Canada to John and Isabel following their immigration from Scotland. Dad moved to Calgary in 1950 where he met and married our Mom Jean on November 22, 1952.
One of Dad’s greatest passions was the game of soccer; as a player, coach and spectator! Among his life achievements he was President of the Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA), President of the Alberta Minor Soccer Association (AMSA) and Vice-President of the Alberta Soccer Association (ASA). As president of the AMSA, he was at the vanguard of what would eventually become a precedent in national soccer. Under his watch, junior and senior levels of soccer in Alberta were put under one umbrella, the ASA. Dad became one of a handful of honored recipients when he was awarded the Canadian Soccer Association Award of Merit. After a lifetime of participation, Dad was recognized nationally for his participation in what he calls “It’s more than a sport it’s a passion”.
Dad was a dedicated Landman with Union Oil for over thirty-five years. Following his retirement, he moved to Windermere Valley where he became involved in the community and served as President of the Royal Canadian Legion in Invermere. Dad was a quiet and sentimental man who led by example and gave generously to several charities. A recent highlight for Dad was the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua to finally meet his Compassion child – German.
Jack is survived by daughters, Arlene Smith (Tony), Karen Taylor and Jacquelyn Taylor; son Kevin Taylor (Bonnie); and granddaughters Carlye Smith (fiancé Mark Seamone) and Sara Smith.
