February 07, 1929 – June 21, 2012
Joan died peacefully after a year of declining health and illness. She settled in Calgary in 1960, joined Newcomers/NuGrads, and then enjoyed an active business life beginning the late ‘60’s. Joan was known for her business and political acumen, was an active member of NuGrads and various bridge groups, as well as serving many years on her strata council board. She was loving, feisty, bright and clever, independent, and loved to tell stories. Most importantly, she cared deeply about and appreciated family members and her many friends. Joan will be remembered by her daughter, Jan Townsend (James), her grandchildren Erik and Lexi, and numerous nieces and nephews and all of their children and grandchildren. She had the good fortune to find a caring friend with Lynn Turner in her later years who was a tremendous companion and great support to her. Her niece Cindy and husband Trevor Chantler both cared and supported her in numerous ways during recent years. Joan was able to retain her independence and dignity with their help along with the excellent caregivers at Beverly Glenmore on Unit 400.
A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at St Peter’s Anglican Church (903 – 75th Avenue SW, corner of Elbow Drive and 75th Avenue) on Wednesday, July 25th, at 2:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, please gift your charity of choice.
