Taverner, Helen

Helen “Elaine” Taverner passed away December 2, 2003 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s at the Bethany Harvest Hills in Calgary at the age of 87 years.

Elaine was born August 7, 1916 in Cornwall, ON to Charles and Maude DeRuchie. She received her education at St. Mary’s Girls School and apart from a short stay in Saskatchewan, has made Calgary her home. She married the love of her life, Lou, on February 22, 1941 and enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. Elaine was a devoted wife and mother as well as being devoted to her church. She was also involved with the Calgary Downtown Lioness Club for many years and was an avid curler. Elaine was always “full of beans” and loved a great joke. She had a sympathetic ear and maintained many long and caring friendships that spanned many years.

Elaine was predeceased by her beloved husband Lou in October 1997, her daughter Judith in 1945, and by four brothers and one sister. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, daughter Carole (Bert) Blouin of Calgary; and sons Bob (Lin) of Airdrie, AB, and Paul (Laura) of Nestow, AB. She also leaves to mourn her passing, six grandchildren, Michael Blouin (Jamey), Marc Blouin (Kim), Todd (Nancy) Taverner, Tim (Laura) Taverner of England, Tracey Taverner (Todd), and Tyler (Jen) Taverner of Ontario; and four great-grandchildren in England, Connor, Cameron, Maeghan, and Delsin Taverner.
