Julius Laslie Sztraka (Gyula Laszlo) passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the age of 88 years.

Julius attended technical college in Hungary and received his diploma as a draftsman. He married his wife Eva Esther Szakal and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1956. Julius finished his career at Reid Crowther and Partners. He worked on various projects including the Calgary Tower, Foothills Hospital, and the Bonnybrook Waste Water Treatment Plant. Julius gave his time and efforts selflessly, always putting others before himself. He was a very active member at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, and will be missed by many.

Julius is survived by his son Julius; grandchildren Christina (Shane), Stephen and Alysha; as well as great-grandchildren Teghan and Taylor. He was predeceased by his wife Eva Sztraka.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (819 – 13th Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 7:00 p. Add Mediam.

    I had just immigrated from England and I always remember Julius as a kind and gentle man.

  2. Dear Sztraka family; To loose your patriarch is never easy, my sincere condolences to you all.

    I was so sorry to hear if Julius’ passing. I worked in the Electrical drafting department from 1966 until 1972. Julius was always a friendly fellow. Since leaving Reid Crowther I never ran into him again. He was ten years my senior. It appears he had a wonderful life in Canada and we (Canada) were the richer from having him here! We both worked on the Calgary (Husky) Tower. It was very exciting at the time, now one has to search for it.
