SUNDBERG – Robert John

March 30, 1938 – January 20, 2011

Bob was a native Calgarian and that is where he married Maureen fifty years ago and raised their girls, Cathy (Joe) and Shannon (Eric). He was very proud of his grandchildren, Riley, Owen, David, and Katelyn. Our family will miss Sunday brunch with grandpa! We all loved our time together. He was a proud family man. Bob had a passion for welding and owned Sundberg Welding. He was a jovial clown with the Al Azhar Shrine Clowns, Jester and community person. Bob was always there to help out his family and friends, he could build anything fix anything and enjoyed teaching us how to do all those things. His life was full of love and fellowship that he shared willingly. Throughout his life he touched us all in different way and for that reason I really think we can call him a good and loving friend, husband, dad, grandpa.

He is survived by his mother Hazel, brother Don (Vi) and sister Linda (Eugene) and many nieces and nephews that he cared for very much.

Bob passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He has requested that there not be a funeral but instead close family and friends will celebrate his life privately. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Shriners Hospital for Children Sneaker Fund, c/o Al Azhar Shriners, 5225 – 101 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T3L 1S4 Telephone: 403-239-0030.

In living memory of Bob Sundberg, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.

Condolence Messages

  1. gail goldsmith :

Sincere condolences to all of Bob’s family. My memories of Bob are as a young child playing hide and seek with him in the Sundberg’s basement, racing up the spiral staircase and running around outside in the backyard. He was always so much fun to be with. He kindly took the time and effort to entertain the children of family friends. Although both my parents Ray,and Louise have passed on- the memories of Bob and all the members of the Sundberg family are very warm, loving and happy. May your special memories of Bob comfort and sustain you during this very, very difficult time.

  4. Cameron Loveday :

My condolence to Bob’s family. I was a classmate of Bobs and he was a super guy. He always contended that the posted class marks must have been in alpabetical order rather than the proper order as he contended that there was no way that my mark could have been possibly higher than his. Also condolences to Don (brother of Bob) and his family. Bob will certainly be missed by many. One day hopefully the entire North Hill gang will be able to have another reunion upstairs.

To Maureen, Cathy, Shannon, and Families,
We were very sorry to read of the passing of Bob. He had fought a good fight for quite a while. One of his legacies surely is how often he made people smile as a clown. We are sure he has earned his rest. May the love of family and friends comfort you. The light will shine again. Thinking of you all.
