STUART, Thomas Reginald

December 8, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Thomas Stuart, beloved husband of Ella May Stuart (nee McKay) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2013 at the age of 94 years.

Thomas was born in Saskatoon, SK on May 14, 1919 and raised in Regina. He served in the RCAF during WW II and following the war graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science and Civil Engineering degree in 1948.

After a short career with the federal government and Saskatchewan Department of Highways, in 1955 Tom joined British American Oil Co., later Gulf Canada Ltd. He served in various positions in Gulf for 28 years, until his retirement in 1983. He also worked from 1985 to 1989 as a consultant with ICG. Tom was a life member of APEGGA and APEGS and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

Tom’s favorite sport was golfing at the Willow Park Golf and Country Club, and in Palm Desert, CA. where he spent many winters since 1990. He also enjoyed playing card games, painting, ceramics and writing funny verse. Tom’s optimism and enthusiasm for life were an inspiration to his family and friends. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother and grandfather.

The family wish to thank Dr. S. Schorr, and Dr. Samis, Sandra Gilles, and the nurses, and caregivers at the Fanning Centre 3 West for all their care and support.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Ella May, his sons Thomas A. Stuart (Lis) of Vernon, BC, Michael Stuart, daughter Deborah Stuart of London, ON, two grandchildren Andrea (Trevor) of Banff, Aaron Stuart of Vernon, BC, and brother Douglas Stuart of California. He is also survived by close family from his second and third wives: Robert Kennedy (Margie), Michael Kennedy (Cynthia), Stephen Rutherford (Linda), Brenda Haddow, Paul Rutherford (Shannon), grandchildren Julie (David), Joanie (Mike), Laura (JP), Kathleen (Jeremy), Matthew, Kyle and Ryan, and great-grandchildren Mika, Benjamin and Charlotte.

Tom was predeceased by his first wife Byrdie Eilers in 1988, and second wife Georgina Kennedy in 1994, daughter Sandra Stuart, son Rodney Stuart, brothers Frank Stuart (Bea), Vere Stuart (Margaret) and sister Jean Malcom (Robert) all of Victoria, BC.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.
