December 6, 1953 – Regina, SK
July 12, 2013 – Calgary, AB
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rod “Stu” Stuart. Rod was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and in his formative years, travelled throughout Canada before settling in Calgary for the majority of his life.
Rod is survived by his father Thomas (Ella May) Stuart, sister Deborah Stuart (London, ON), and brothers Thomas (Lisabeth) Stuart (Vernon, BC) and Michael Stuart (Calgary), and niece Andrea (Trevor) Stuart, and nephew Aaron Stuart and many friends, including those for the Alberta College of Art and Design, his home away from home. Rod had a long and rewarding career at ACAD since 1993 as an audio-visual technician. He touched the lives of many students, staff and faculty through his tireless provision of assistance, support and instruction. Rod loved devising creative solutions to technical challenges and teaching students about technology that would support their art. Rod also loved music, and was a talented pianist. He also loved exploring Canada’s West Coast. Rod was known for his wonderful sense of humor, generous spirit, positive attitude and gentle nature. He maintained these attributes even as he struggled valiantly against lung cancer over the last nine months. Rod will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and students.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Rod’s life will be held at the Alberta College of Art and Design in October, details will follow.
