Condolence Messages

  1. Charlotte SexSmith :

I was married to James for 20 years and am the mother of Victoria. It must be noted that James was a very active member of the Alberta Amateur Hockey Association [AAHA] for decades and devoted himself to the love of hockey and was awarded the George Look Award for his outstanding contribution to the game. He adored his daughter Victoria and was thrilled when his Grandson, Reid Michael James, was born in June of 2013. He loved to play guitar, had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed gardening and reading. Over the years James made many friends and he will be missed by those friends and acquaintances.

  8. Dear Judy,

James was one of my most favourite people of all time.

He and my mother had a very strong connection, and she was very comforted by a letter he wrote to her when she was dying.

I have the most wonderful memories of James and his great sense of humour. Although we had not met in person for years, I will carry his memory in my heart for the rest of my life.

You have my most sincere condolences.

    Kati

We are long time friends and neighbors of James and Charlotte. We spent many a good evening convalescing on the Paradise Cocktail lounge, enjoying long conversations, neighborhood barbeques, playing charades and Trivial Dispute and meeting both their friends and family. Our condolences go to James’s family, both current and past, as I know they are in pain.

    He was taken too early.

  13. Morgan, Ron & Darlene :

    Judy & Victoria,

Darlene and I were just made aware today of the passing of James, I am compelled to express our deepest condolences to you, Victoria, and your family.

Our connection with James was through the decade of the eighties, and although we lived close by, it was through officiating hockey that we became close friends. I was a young referee learning the ropes, James took me under his wing and was a mentor, dear friend, and trusted confidant. Darlene and I were members of the Paradise Lounge and spent many, many hours with James, his guitar, our favorite glass of wine, and terrific evenings that often only ended because the sun was starting to get bright. The memories of James are many, to many for words, as I sit this moment with a glass of wine at the end of a busy work week, there is little doubt that Darlene and I will spend our evening reflecting on our time spent in the company of James.

In the early nineties, I was transferred to Edmonton and although we did have an opportunity to visit James a few times after that, I was transferred back to Ontario in 1994 and sadly, we lost touch with James. We did meet Victoria on one or two occasions but she was little more than crawling so she would not remember us either.

Among my other regretts this evening, I regret that we never had a opportunity to meet you. James was one of life’s special friends and will never be forgotten.

    God Bless & Keep,
Ron & Darlene, Sean & Brent Morgan.
