STRITE, Judith Ann

January 21, 1950 – April 17, 2012

With sadness and a terrible sense of loss, our family reports that Judy died on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 of cancer after a short period of illness and hospitalization.

She is survived by her granddaughter Isabelle, son Mike, her mother Kitty, brother Richard, sisters Nancy and Debbie, and her husband Monty.

Judy was a thoroughly modern woman, confident and accomplished: summer pickle factory worker during high school, mathematics major at University, career accounting professional, successful real estate investor, travel aficionada and a prize winning needlework artist. However, it was her unique mix of intelligence, sense of humour, absolutely blunt forthrightness, unwavering powerful will and a fierce loyalty to family and friends that characterized her and that caused us to love her and value her.

Much of Judy is reflected in the warm messages her friends sent her when faced with Judy’s refusal to speak to or see anyone other than family during her illness. Here are the kind words of one of them: “ In the likely case I don’t get to see Judy, here is what I would like to tell her from me. She is a good friend, terrific travel companion, superb hostess and wonderful mentor to our kids. She is a loving wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, and aunt. I don’t think she left anything on the table.”

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through Judy has asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Hospice Calgary Society, (Rosedale Hospice) 1245 – 70 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB, T2H 2X8.

  2. Really sorry to hear the news, and couldn’t believe it. Although I have only met Judith once, the memory is very clear in my mind. Her smile and great hospitality can never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.

  3. Paul Van Ginkel :

Dear Monty. With a heavy heart I extend my sincere condolences for the passing of Judy. I met Judy in 1994 when she purchased her first painting from me. The diverse collection she acquired over the years was a reflection of her eclectic tastes and appreciation for the unusual and exotic. Kristin and I treasure the extraordinary cushion she made for us as a house warming present in 2006. I have many fond memories of Judy and will miss her dearly. Sending support and prayers to you and your family. Paul Van Ginkel
