July 12, 1928 – Waugh, AB
March 4, 2015 – Calgary, AB

The Oilers and Eskimos are short one fan as our family is saddened to announce the passing of our father, grandfather, companion, friend, Peter Strilchuk on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the age of 86 years.

He was predeceased by his leading lady of fifty-eight years, Linda, on October 10, 2014. It is likely they are now dancing to “Some Enchanted Evening”, among the stars.

Peter was born in Waugh, AB on July 12, 1928. He was raised on a farm along with his sisters Elsie and Virginia. Peter didn’t shy away from hard work. He attended the University of Alberta and from there, embarked on a lifelong career in pharmaceutical sales. He was active in the community serving as baseball and hockey coach in Willow Park and Mapleridge. Many Saturday nights at home were spent making perogies and watching Hockey Night in Canada. This art he passed on to his children and grandchildren, ensuring the felling of eating one too many perogies is shared with the next generation.

Peter will be remembered as a loving, kind and gentle man whose unwavering dedication to his wife and family set an example for all of us to follow.

Peter is survived by his daughter Patty (Sil) Tartal); sons Russ (Laura) Strilchuk and Greg Strilchuk; six grandchildren, Julia and Bryan Tartal, Kyla and Russell Strilchuk and Jordan and Justine Strilchuk. He also leaves behind his sister Elsie and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his loving wife Linda, Peter was predeceased by his sister Virginia and youngest son Bryan in 1993.

No Service will be held. Forward condolences through

In living memory of Peter Strilchuk, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Condolence Messages

  1. Heartfelt condolences to the Strilchuk family. Although we have never met I have heard many wonderful things about you all. Peter and Linda were “Legion” friends with my parents Merv and Anne Pateman and met every Friday afternoon for many many years at Branch 285. I was privileged to enjoy their company whenever I visited from Toronto joining the table gang. We shared many stories and many great laughs with your dad. He and my Dad really enjoyed each other’s company. My visits diminished to the Legion as both my dad and mom passed away but although the four friends have left us I feel they are still meeting every Friday. We share your loss as Peter was very special to both Philip and I and we will treasure our memories of him.

  2. I am thinking of you all
Uncle Peter was a great guy. He seemed to always have a smile and a positive word.
We were close with him and Auntie Lindy, if not physically always in our hearts.
    Bless you all
    Cousin Alan

We were very saddened to hear the news of Peter’s passing. Over the years we had the privilege of visiting with Peter at the many Strilchuk family celebrations. He was such a gracious soul and we thoroughly enjoyed his kindness and sense of humour. We are thinking of you all during your time of sorrow and we hope that in time the memories of your Dad and Grandpa will make you smile.
With love and our heartfelt condolences,
