December 21, 1961- New Westminster, BC
October 25, 2013 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James A. Strangeway on Oct 25th, in Calgary, AB after a swift, intense fight with cancer.

He was predeceased by his father James L. Strangeway. He is survived by the love of his life, Roberta, his mother Ivy Thomas, sisters Barb Jones and Beverley (Daniel) Byrne, brothers Richard (Kimberley) Strangeway and Michael (Christine Broadhead) Strangeway, mother-in-law Donna Jepson, father-in-law Wayne (Patricia) Hurstfield, sister-in-law Deanna (Lenard Segnitz) Hurstfield, brother-in-law Trevor Hurstfield, his much loved nieces and nephews (Carlene, David, Sarah, and Samuel) and numerous friends.

Jim was born in New Westminster, BC in the winter of 1961 as an early Christmas present to his family. His start to life was not without challenges as he had open-heart surgery as an infant. But he persevered and grew up to be the kind and loving person we all knew with many passions from cooking to tinkering on his old army jeep to restoring a jukebox to play his favourites music.

Jim worked for several years as a service technician at Xerox in the Lower Mainland, and then went to work for Frisco Bay as a Security Service Technician / Installer and continued on with Stanley Securities Systems when Frisco Bay was purchase by them. His job took him all over the province, into Alberta and up to the Yukon and sometimes even Russia. In 2011, he took a position in the Calgary office, where he had worked until now.

His last few weeks saw him battle courageously against the cancer overtaking his body. As with everything, he fought it with dignity and as much strength as he could. Roberta & family wishes to thank all of the family and friends, and the incredible staff at Tom Baker Cancer Clinic, who provided their love and support to her and Jim through this difficult time.

A private family service will be held. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in memory of James Strangeway may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Provincial Office, Sun Life Place, 710, 10123 – 99th Street, Edmonton, AB T5J 3H1 Telephone: 1(866) 412-4222 or to the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation, P.O. Box 1030 Coaldale, AB T1M 1M8, Telephone: 1 (403) 345-4262.

In living memory of James Strangeway, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
