September 22, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Gord passed away Sunday, September 22 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta at the age of 63 with his loving wife Brenda by his side.
He is survived by his wife Brenda, his two daughters Kelsey Cassels and Christy Thompson (Gerald) and four cherished grandchildren Braydon and Kayda Cassels and Van and Kate Thompson. He is also survived by his younger sister Linda Repp (Grant). Gord was happiest spending time with all his family, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and his dear mother-in-law Betty Barr.
An original “Young Canadian” 1964-1967, Gord’s love of music was always present in his life. Some of his fondest life experiences were building the family cabin at Columbia Lake, BC, spending time at his uncle’s farm in Broadview, SK, hiking the West Coast Trail with his best friend Bob Bannon and his trip to Scotland and England with Brenda and the girls. Throughout life his God was in nature, hiking, camping, quading, boating, fishing, golfing and anything that brought him to the great outdoors. From diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s, Gord and Brenda were determined to make a difference to those whose lives are affected by this disease by raising awareness, creating change, and raising funds for Alzheimer’s research. With the support of family and friends they successfully raised $85,000 at “Gord’s Game” for Alzheimer’s golf tournaments. All proceeds were donated to research.
