Ralph Alexander Stewart of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice after a lengthy illness on July 10, 2006 at the age of 81 years.
Ralph was born on January 12, 1925 in Windthorst, Saskatchewan and spent his early years on the prairies. After serving with the Canadian Air Force in the 1940’s, he lived in Vancouver and Calgary, working in the farm implement industry. A fifty-five year Mason and an Elks member for thirty-five years, Ralph’s favourite past times and interests included curling, cards and aircraft. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love and pride for his family, his innate mechanical skill and his great love for nature. The echoes of Dad’s willow whistles, made with his pocket-knife, will be with us always.
Ralph is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Thelma; children Wendy, Charlie (Jackie), David (Diana), Marlene (Graham) and Ken (Gina); grandchildren Christie (Brad), Nicole (Bill), Stewart (Kim), Michael, Jessica, Elizabeth and Catherine; great grandchildren Riley, Sarah and Ella; and sister Stella. He was predeceased by his parents Ella and Charles Stewart, and sisters Lucille and Bernice.
The Stewart family thanks Dad’s home care nurses Hatti, Janice, Linda and Lynn and physician Dr. Perry Glimpel for their assistance to Mom in caring for Dad over the last four years. The family also thanks all of the staff and volunteers at the Rosedale Hospice for their care and compassion.
