STERNER, Joanna (Anne) Megchelina

September 10, 1926 – May 1, 2012

Anne Sterner passed away in Calgary at the Southwood Hospice on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the age of 85 years with her children by her side.

She was born in Wijchen, Netherlands, moved with her family to a farm in Saskatchewan in 1949, married Carl in 1958, and had two children after moving to Vancouver. After Carl’s death in 1969, she moved to Calgary to be closer to family and raise her children. She was a vivacious and devoted mother, gardener, seamstress, curler, card player, sports fan, community worker, and loving caregiver to all who came into her circle. She will be dearly missed.

Anne is survived by her children Carleen (Harry), and Tony (Elke); grandchildren, Brianna, Connor, Marley, and Nicholas; sisters, Mena, Corrie, and Bertha; and brothers Hank, Herman, and Mike. She was predeceased by her husband Carl; parents Hendrickus and Maria; and brother John.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Open viewing will be available from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
