January 17, 1926 – June 5, 2012
William Arthur McCracken (Mac) Stenson of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the age of 86 years.
He was “Our Billy” to family and friends in England where he lived prior to immigrating to Canada in 1963. Bill to those he met on his travels while working as a Professional Engineer for Rolls Royce and Pratt & Whitney. He was simply Dad, Mac or “Grandpa Mac” to those of us who will miss him the most.
Dad had a way of negotiating through the world that was unique. He was a true character, a lover of life, who never lost his curiosity, sense of adventure or his desire for continuous learning.
He was a loving husband to Mavis (predeceased) his wife of forty-seven years. He was a much loved Dad to Michael (Monique), Trevor (Janet) and Trish (Joanne). He was a proud grandfather to Kirstie (Rob), Matthew (Jaime), Meeca and Rowan. “Grandpa” Mac to his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ben, Maddie, Aly and soon to arrive “baby bump”. He was brother to Marjorie and Uncle Billy to Colin and Hilary.
Mac had seventeen wonderful years with partner and companion Margaret McCartney. He was a much loved fixture in the lives of Margaret’s children, Candy (Wendell) and Jan (Ken). He was a much loved surrogate grandparent to their children, Andrew (Erin), Gillian, Graham, Diane and Nancy (Chris).
All who had the privilege of knowing him will miss his dry sense of humour and bad jokes. Mac lived a rich life. We can see him dancing and reciting “Albert and the Lion” as he moves into his next great adventure.
We love you, Mac. You will be missed. Thank you for being such an amazing part of lives.
