STAYSKO, Robert Francis

June 2, 1925– Lethbridge, AB
November 21, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Robert Francis Staysko beloved husband of Luella Joyce Staysko (nee Balmer) of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the age of 88 years.

Born in Lethbridge, AB on June 2, 1925, Robert attended St. Basil’s School and St. Patrick’s School in Lethbridge before moving to Medicine Hat with his parents in 1936. He completed his high school education at St. Theresa Academy in Medicine Hat prior to joining the RCAF in 1943. Following graduation as a sergeant air gunner, on release from the RCAF, attended the University of Alberta and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1949.

Bob joined Chevron Canada Resources as an accountant in May 1949. He transferred to Dominion Oil Limited (Social) in Trinidad in 1954 as chief accountant, returning after three years to Chevron in Calgary. He ended his career of thirty-eight years of service with Chevron as coordinator – salary administration and employee development attached to the human resources staff.

Robert served as a flight lieutenant with Calgary’s 30 Wing and 403 RCAF Auxiliary Squadron until the Calgary unit was disbanded in 1964. At that time he was transferred as a lieutenant to HMCS Tecumseh (RCN Reserve) serving until 1968. He was a member of the Air Crew Association, the Naval Officers’ Association of Canada, and the Chevron Retirees Association.

Robert is survived by Joyce, his loving wife of sixty-five years; three sons, David (Nena) of Penticton, BC, Robert Jr. (Sharon) of Calgary, AB, and Stephen (Mia) of De Winton, AB; and grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Robert, Nicole, Travis, Andrew, and Nolan. He was predeceased by his older brother Lawrence Andrew on December 8, 1991, his mother Mary Agnes Staysko on July 29, 1970, and by a strange coincidence, his father Andrew Joseph Staysko on July 29, 1983.
