STAPLETON – James Edward “Jim”

July 28, 1953 – October 8, 2010

James Edward (Jim) Stapleton, loving husband of Gwen of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the age of 57 years.

Jim was a very successful and respected businessman owning Jentek Controls and Anchor Controls within the Calgary business community. He was a very wonderful, gentle being that treated everyone fairly and with respect. He was a good man, well known for his generosity.

Jim’s passions were sailing his and Gwen’s catamaran, playing golf, riding his Harley Davidson, fishing, sports and travelling adventures, which came to an end all too soon. Jim was so very happy when he was surrounded by his family and many friends. He had an amazing life but was taken from us with all too many dreams left to fulfill.

Besides his loving wife Gwen (nee Meyers) Stapleton, Jim is survived by his mother Betty of Perth, ON; sisters, Cathy (Bob Cleroux) of Perth, ON, Elizabeth (Mike Grieves), of Destin Beach, Florida and Kelly of Toronto. Jim was predeceased by his father Desmond in 1996. Jim is going to be greatly missed by all his family, extended family and friends in Calgary, Ottawa, Perth and all around the world. Jim had an amazing life that was sadly too short.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Black Swan (10455 Southport Rd SW) at 2:00 PM. Graveside Service to follow at a later date in Perth, Ontario. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Jim Stapleton Memorial Fund in Support of Shannon’s MS Treatment, CIBC, Southland Drive and Macleod Trail branch, Calgary.

In living memory of Jim Stapleton, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.

Thinking of all of you at this sad time. I only met Jim a few times but enjoyed his sense of humour and appreciated how kind he was to his sister Kelly. He and Gwen were well matched as they both were so great when meeting new people. You felt comfortable as if you had known them for a long time and could enjoy a few laughs with them. Such a loss.

    Dear Gwen,
We are shocked and sorry to hear about Jim. I’m glad I played a few games of golf with him in the last few years as it meant I got to know him better. I rarely saw him for the earlier twenty years or so when we were all working.
We will see you for the Service for him back here in Perth. If you need any help closing up the cottage for the winter let me know. I’ve had lots of practice closing mine, so I’m getting pretty good at it.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.

The best word for me to describe Jim is ‘Mentorship’. He is someone I looked up to and without a doubt I would not be where I am in life without him and his hard work. To me he seemed invincible. Thanks for teaching me soo much. I will never forget.
