October 6, 1931 – February 28, 2013
Luigi (Gino) Stante, beloved husband of Anna Stante of Pescara, Italy, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the age of 81 years.
Born on October 6, 1931 in Fossacesia Marina, Chieti, Italy, Luigi immigrated to Canada in 1954. He and Anna were married by proxy on March 18, 1957 and celebrated their marriage on December 7, 1957. Luigi was a fisherman in Italy before becoming a bricklayer in Calgary, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church, the Calgary Italian Club and the Knights of Columbus. Luigi’s passions included his faith, fishing, his dog Shylo, nature, and health. He had a weakness for chocolate and animals. Luigi also enjoyed travelling, cherishing his first visit back to Italy in 1972.
Besides his loving wife Anna, Luigi is also survived by his two daughters, Marcella Stante of Delta, BC and Renata Stante of Calgary; two grandchildren, Dylan Jagoe and Ivan Bortolussi; sisters, Angela and Maria; and brother Tonino.
Luigi was predeceased by his parents Domenico and Rosaria; and nine brothers and sisters, Yolanda, Alvita, Alberina, Adelmo, Giuseppe, Alessandro, Nelma, Emilia, and Alberto.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.
