Condolence Messages

  1. Verne and Pat McKay :

Our most sincere condolences to Mike’s wife and family.
Verne attended Elbow Park, Rideau, Central, U of A with Mike and they were D.U. Fraternity brothers as well. We saw him at the Central reunion and had a visit with him and we have been up on his news through our mutual good friend Bob Niven.
Mike had a great sense of humour and was always fun to be with. A link in the chain is broken and we will miss him.

  2. My deepest condolences to the Stanford family and all of Michael’s close friends. He was a very knowledgeable and entertaining man and he will be missed by all. Michael and I worked closely together as I was his financial advisor at National Bank Financial, and I will really miss our deep conversations about the stock markets, the economy and the good old days. Rest in peace, Mike.

My time spent with Mike and his friends during his later years was always entertaining, he was always up-beat and fun to be with. He was an accomplished chef and loved his BBQ. God bless you Mike, you will be missed by all.

  4. My sincerest condolences to Mike’s family.
My association with Mike was through our common interest in Parks Foundation Calgary and Shaw Gardens. We enjoyed many working lunches, always with a glass of wine. After Parks issues were completed, many other topics arose related to autos, remembrances of oilfield history and especially his beloved Calgary Stampeders. He was a master of coffee brewing and an true aficionado of McMahon tailgating.
Mike, his earnestness, optimism and good nature will be missed by all.

  5. I was very sorry to learn of Mike’s passing. Mike and I go back many years to our childhood in Elbow Park. We played together on several hockey teams and spent many hours talking and hanging out together at the community center and in our cars once we became old enough to drive.

Our careers took us to different parts of the world, and we had only infrequent contacts in recent years. Despite that, we remained close.

I often think of Mikes spirit and energy. Those characteristics stayed with him over the years, as many in Calgary know. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy goes to Michael’s mother (who served me many casual meals and snacks over the years), and to his brother and sister and their families. To his wife and stepdaughter as well. I wish our families had met.
