Winnifred Stahl passed away peacefully at Rockyview Medical Centre in Calgary, AB on March 14, 2013 at the age of 89.
Winnifred was predeceased by her beloved husband Roy, brothers and sister Robert, John and Maurine as well as by her son-in-law Lorne.
Winnifred is survived by her loving daughters Sherrie MacRae and Virginia Trueman (Rick) and grandchildren Christopher McRae and his partner Brenna Walls, Sylvie Trueman and Amanda Trueman. She is also survived by Chrissie McGirr and her family as well as friends and family near and far.
Winnifred Stahl was born to Christopher and Winnifred McGirr on April 7, 1923 in Calgary, AB and was a lifelong resident of Alberta and very proud Calgarian. Winnifred was educated at Parkhill and Rideau Schools and graduated from Central Collegiate Institute. On August 2, 1941 in Calgary, AB she married Roy Clarence Herman Stahl. Soon after they welcomed their first daughter Sherrie and four years later they welcomed their second daughter Virginia. In 1972 Winnifred became a grandparent for the first time to Christopher through Sherrie and her husband Lorne and then again in both 1977 and 1978 to Sylvie and Amanda through Virginia and her husband Rick.
Over the course of her life Winnifred was a Charter Member of the Riverview United Church, a group leader of the United Church Women, a member of the Women’s Canadian Club and a longstanding member of the Alberta Highland Dancing Association (Calgary). For many years she was a business partner with her husband Roy for their Manchester Auto and Sporting Goods business as well as breeders of Simmental cattle at the Aspen Ridge Ranch (Okotoks).
Of Winnifred’s many loves hockey and other sports, family, friends, church, reading, fizzy drinks and Oscars/Wellington’s restaurant were just a few. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the verandah at Heritage Park’s Wainright Hotel and one of Winnifred’s favourite summer spots full of decades of fond memories was Lynhurst cottage at Sylvan Lake.

Memorial service to be held at McInnis & Holloway Park Memorial Chapel 5008 Elbow Drive SW on Friday, March 22 at 2pm. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery to follow at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or another charity close to your heart if you wish.
