SPENCER, Mary “Carole” Katherine

SPENCER, Mary “Carole” Katherine

April 9, 1936 – Moncton, New Brunswick

March 3, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary “Carole” Katherine Spencer.

Carole, the daughter of Marie and Edward Horan, was born April 9th, 1936 and grew up on the east coast where she developed a desire to care for others, as well as feasting on lobster and clams. Her aspirations lead her to a career in nursing where she met her late husband, Reg Spencer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Through Reg’s work, Carole found herself in the Northwest Territories and eventually they settled in Calgary in 1968 where, together, they raised a family of five kids. Carole’s greatest passions were reserved for her family, her cats and the sun. A perfect day would have her tanning by the water, cats in her lap and husband and children nearby.

Carole is survived by her four daughters, Patty (Judge Michael Dinkel), Debbie (Bill Yanez), Shari (Brent Stradeski), Caroline (Jan Cyganik), and her son Paul (Jacquie). She leaves behind three sisters and seven grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Tudor Manor in Okotoks and the nurses of Unit 58 at Calgary’s South Health Campus for their amazing kindness, caring and empathy. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to your local SPCA to ensure more cats find a loving home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Blvd. S.W.) on Thursday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Carole Spencer, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th STREET S.E.. Telephone: 403-203-0525.

  6. Patty, Mike and Family,

Carole’s laughter was infectious, it made you feel like you were getting a hug from the sun. She’s a wonderful woman, it was a privilege to know her while she was here. If you believe in anything more, she’s still a little firecracker, just in a different place.

Patty, Shari, and family. I just heard of Carole’s passing. I am deeply saddened to hear this. Your mom was very special to me, I enjoyed our daily visits, our conversations, her kindness and soft spoken way. She always had a smile on her face and always wanted to hear more of what was going on with my family. She talked often of you both and Brent and how blessed she was to have such a loving family. She will always be on my mind and forever in my heart. Hugs…
