Ernie was born on June 14, 1925 in Nanton, AB. His career spanned four decades first as a rodman / surveyor, then for the Department of Public Works followed by the Department of Water Resources. Working up the chain of command to become an Inspector with the Department of the Environment on major engineering projects through out the Peace River District. After retirement he continued managing structure installations for Environment for an additional 4 years as a contractor before pulling the pin and taking a well-earned retirement hiatus. Then, after selling their home in Devon, Ole Ern and his “sweet Alice” spent 18 nomadic years living and exploring Canada, the US, and Central America in their motorhome before their wanderlust ended, returning to a Rocky Mountain vista and settling in a Canmore apartment for the next 10 years. During that time Ernie ran cribbage nights in the Community Center, showed travel videos in the Senior Lodge and led weekly hikes and exercise programs for the Canmore Hospital Rehab center. He and Alice then moved to the Bow Valley Lodge in Canmore and thereafter to a nursing home in Calgary for the extended care Alice required.
