SMITH, Paul Randolph

August 17, 1942 – Goderich, ON
June 17, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Updated 06/21/13 6:00pm – Services will proceed as scheduled below:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Randolph Smith on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the age of 70 years.

Paul was born in Goderich, ON and later moved to Toronto at the age of eighteen. His greatest joy was music. He played the piano for fun and as a teenager was a drummer in a rock band called the Assembly. He spent endless hours recording various types of music to CD’s.

Paul worked at Rothmans Canada as Special Events Co-ordinator for many years. He was responsible for Equestrian Events across Canada. During that time he moved to Calgary and became an accredited CEF Jumper Judge and FEI Steward. He then joined Gilbey International as a Sales Representative and continued his involvement in the horse show world where he made many dear friends over the years.

In later years, Paul worked at Willow Park Wine and Spirits in the winter months which allowed him to officiate at the many large equestrian events across Canada and Mexico.

He loved warm weather and sunshine, especially at the cottage in Manitoba; making popcorn and sharing it with TJ as they watched movies together; reading his newspaper and doing crosswords on a daily basis. Paul was a kind soul and gentle man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Paul is survived by his wife Dorothy; son Thomas (TJ); daughter Cindy (Rick) Vanderlinde; grandchildren Madeline, Meghan and David of Barrie, ON; son Danny of Orilla, ON; sister Yvonne (Trevor) Yak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Paul and I worked together at Willow Park from 2001 and on. He always made me laugh and I would say he was one of the most influential friends I have come across. He always talked music and all kinds of other great times. I think everyone should now vow that June 17 is now officially drink a Labatt Blue, it was his brand even though I tried to get him on better brew. Love You Paul you will be missed but our good times will be cherished forever.
