SMITH, Lurana Marie (nee Schollen)

December 30, 1956 – Calgary, AB
August 11, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Our family said our last goodbyes to Lurana on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the South Calgary Health Campus. Although she was only 57, she lived a full and colourful life. Lurana grew up in Calgary. She loved this city and called it home. It wasn’t just the mountains and the scenic beauty, but more importantly her family and friends that she loved dearly. And no two people more than her children, Shaun and Lindsay, who, in her own words are her greatest gifts and proudest accomplishments. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2012. Lurana fought daily and proved that she is the strongest person any of her loved ones has ever known. It was that strength and perseverance, which allowed her to greet into this world her last grandchild and to spend quality time with all four of them. She leaves behind her two children Shaun (Kristy), and Lindsay (Juan); her brother Bill (Lois) and her sister Jeanne (Albert); her grandchildren Gabriela, Lacey, Aurelia, and Blake; numerous nieces and nephews; her many friends and in particular, her life-long friend Heather. She is now reunited with her father Frank and her mother Joan.

In accordance with her wishes, Lurana was cremated in a private family service on August 14, 2014. A Gathering to commemorate her beautiful spirit will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If desired, please make donations in Lurana’s name to Pancreatic Center Canada (www.pancreaticcancercanada.ca).

In living memory of Lurana Smith, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

  3. Sandy Tregarthen :

    Dearest Lindsay and Shaun,
My sincere condolences on the passing of your very brave Mother. Your Mom left this world far too soon and was blessed to have seen you both happily married and her beautiful grand children born, completing the circle of life every parent hopes to witness. You will see her in your children as they grow, your Mom will be with them and you every step of the rest of your journeys, watching over you all from a place of peace and no more pain.
Stay strong like your Mother and pass that on to your children.
    Sincerely,
    Sandy Tregarthen
