SMITH, Frank

July 1, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Our cherished father, Frank Smith of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the age of 99.

Frank was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 8, 1918. Frank attended Centennial School, West Kildonan in Winnipeg. He joined the R.C.M.P. and served for twenty-five years from May 30, 1940 to January 21,1965. After this retirement, he worked for Provincial Family Court as Crown Prosecutor for Juvenile Court, retiring in April of 1983. He had interests in Track and Field, Cub and Scout Leader, Playing Hockey and coaching Juvenile Hockey, Cross- Country Skiing, and Ladies Softball. He also loved curling, golf, bowling and gardening. In his retirement, he loved to spend time with his family, including grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Frank is survived by his loving wife Vivian Louise of 70 years; sons Murray, Ron (Josie), Brian (Sean); and daughter and son-in-law Debbie and David Chamberland; eight grandchildren, Marc Tyler Smith, Jill Nicole Roy, Peter O’Neill Smith, Gavin Murray O’Neill Smith, Loni Rae McDonough, Elise Marie Chamberland, Daniel Bernard Ross Chamberland; fourteen great-grandchildren Austin Allan Smith, Karson Gerald William Smith, Mason Murray Frank Smith, Tyson Michael O’Neill Smith, Aurora Smith, Annabella Smith, Lucas Russel Murray Smith, Jude Smith, William Tyler Roy, Benjamin Marc Roy, Sarah Nicole Smith, Emma Betty Smith, Sophie Addison Smith, Marley Coyne Smith, Owen Frank Smith and he was looking forward to the birth of the fifteenth grandchild Owen Frank who was born on July 4, 2017.

He was predeceased by his parents George Wilson and Mary Galbraith (Smith); brothers George Robert and Leslie Smith and his sister Alice Smith.

The family would like to thank all of those who cared for Frank during his final months at Foothills Hospital and the Dulcina Hospice in Evanston.
