SMITH – Robert James (Jim)

November 9, 1959 – June 5, 2011

Our hearts are broken with the loss of our “Pig”. We will miss his calm, soft spoken way and his quick and oft times twisted humour.

Jim passed away suddenly on June 5th, 2011 due to complications from cancer diagnosed 4 days prior.

It was Jim’s wish that his ashes be scattered in the same location as his mother’s.

  6. Heather Thompson :

I will miss you Pig, the sound of your trotters coming up my steps although that has been a long time. The Pig spice and Pig burgers and the rum balls. I loved your humour and how bugging the Cat was your greatest source of joy. I will cherish the times the 4 of us spent together always, one of my favorites was the evenings we spent planning my kitchen reno while Judi and Bjorn were asleep (snoring) on the couch. You made it happen, my friend. Judi, I love you, we all were all so lucky to have had him in our lives and I know you will miss him with all your heart.
    Your friend forever, Heather.

  7. Linda McCann :

Words cannot express the depth of your sorrow, nor comfort you much in this time of loss and grief. He will always be a part of your life.

If you haven’t, please take the time to make a large memory board. I found it strangely comforting to go through all the pictures and talk and laugh and cry with my close family.

    My thoughts are with you.

  8. Gordon McCann :

In recent years I have frequently thought of what an amazing “blessing” Jim was to my sister and her kids. I could talk about what a great guy he was, and he certainly was. For me, though, it’s if I try to imagine what might have become of Judi and Kris, Tyler & Casey had Jim not brought that “calm, soft spoken way” into their lives….
    Well, I’m simply exceedingly grateful.
And Jim, when I get the car finished, one very serious burnout will be performed in your honour. 🙂

The true measure of someone is the footprint that they leave behind. Jim leaves huge shoes to fill as he has meant so much to so many and he certainly meant very much to our family. We can never thank him enough for every sacrifice he made and every kind thing he did for our daughter and our family.

His legacy carries on in our hearts and with each beat – we remember.

We love you Judi – be strong!

I grew up with Jim when he would spend the summer holidays across the road from me at his grandparents place. We had alot of fun together as kids. He was one of the funniest guys I know and was a soft spoken gentle soul. I can only hope time can soften the loss to Judi and the rest of the family, with sympathy and love, Aaron Coates

  22. Rick Renard :

Jim was always a joy to be around, we spent many late hours working into the night in the NWT keeping aircraft flying. Jim always managed to find a way to have fun despite the conditions and his calm steady approach gave us all perspective on what really mattered.
He was a great man and will always be fondly remembered by his family and friends.

  23. Casey Ayotte (Brat #2) :

Uncle Gord’s words struck home for me. What would it have been like without Jim? Don’t get me wrong we would have been alright, but we certainly wouldn’t be the fantastic human beings we are today.
Jim taught me a lot of things, more then I can put my finger on. Things like, he taught me the importance of patience and he also taught me the art of losing it at the right moments. He taught me that taunting the people you love is not only fun but sometimes its exactly what they need. He taught me that you don’t always need to hear “I love you” to know you are loved. I know now that it takes a seriously loving and patient man to accept the responsibility of 3 bratty kids, to be with the woman he loves more than anything. Jim was a father to us whether he claimed the title or not.
I feel so very lucky to have 2 loving fathers and so very heartbroken to have lost one of them.
