SLEIGH – John Ksi’konistai’kitstaki

October 23, 1930 – April 16, 2011


John Sleigh passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital on Saturday, April 16, 2011 surrounded by family members.  He is survived by son, Jonathan (Leanne); daughters, Rosabel (Dwayne), Flora (Louis), Geraldine (Calvin), Maureen (Brian) and Peggy (Marlon); adopted children, Howard Pretty Youngman, Bernice Leather and Dino Olds; brothers, Matthew and Francis Sleigh; sisters, Christine, Catherine and Lavina (Clayton) Sleigh; sister-in-law, Alma Pretty Youngman; aunts, Rosealma Many Shots, Maggie Black Kettle and Marie Crow Child; uncle Leonard Good Eagle; thirty-four grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces; and extended family from the Eagle Rib, Good Eagle, Many Fires, Big Snake, Lafrance, Calf, Three Suns, White Eagle, Leather, Many Shots, Little Chief, Wolf Leg, Black Kettle, Weasel Head, Scalplock and Bear Hat families.  He was predeceased by his wife Leona; daughter, Carrie;  parents, Alphonse and Helen; sisters, Cecile Yellow Fly-Sleigh and Florine Sleigh; brother, Harold Sleigh; aunties, Lucy Weasel Head, Maggie Lafrance, Rose Many Wounds and Mary Laura Leather; uncle Harry Good Eagle; brothers-in-law, Percy Yellow Fly and Chief Leo Pretty Youngman; nephews, JR Sleigh and Christopher Eagle Rib Jr.  John lived a very private and quiet simple life, in his younger days he was a rancher and farmer leading up to being a ranch hand with local ranchers.  He was one of the founding members of the Blackfoot A-1 Club and was a member of the Brave Dog Society.  He was very fond and proud of all his children and grandchildren.  The family will miss him dearly.  Wake Services will be held at his residence in Little Washington on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Trinity Parish, (Siksika Nation), on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Little Washington Cemetery.
