SIKORA, Myron William

November 19, 1946 – Esterhazy, SK
July 19, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Myron William Sikora beloved husband of Carol passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Calgary South Health Campus.

Myron Sikora’s life was spiritually rich, and his adventurous demeanor was influential to all that he met. He ventured away from the farm in Esterhazy, SK as a young man to pursue his dream of being an airline pilot. Starting in Pembroke, ON and then moving to Halifax, NS and eventually settling in Calgary, AB, Myron worked for Pem Air, Eastern Provincial Airlines, Canadian Pacific Airlines, Canadian Airlines and Air Canada. This became not only his career but his passion for the next thirty years. Even beyond his job, Myron travelled extensively with his family across the globe, including numerous destinations across the United States, Australia, the Caribbean and Europe. He enjoyed being close to the mountains and frequently visited several ski hills during the winter, and in the summer you could often find him riding his bike in Fish Creek Park or driving his Mustang convertible. He loved to attend many social outings, and it was not uncommon for him to be at the community dance or performing with his accordion group, Fess and Friends. Myron’s sense of humor was unmatched, and his contagious laugh would light up any room. Myron was a devoted Catholic, a talented musician (also playing the piano), a member of the Knights of Columbus, a volunteer with Inn from the Cold and an avid Calgary Stampeders and Calgary Flames fan. Most of all, Myron will be remembered as a kind, caring and loving husband and father.

Besides his loving wife Carol, Myron is survived by his children Curtis (Erin), Jason, and Gregory (Lesley); grandchildren Andrew and Rachel; brother Dale; and his sister Merle (Mark).

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Myron Sikora, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Carol, My thoughts are sad today at the passing of a good man. We travelled to Mexico City together and later I was an usher at your wedding. I was invited as a guest and then you know how families are, one more cousin in the bridal party. I remember him sharing his thoughts of you as a cute little blonde “back home”. Take care that you had a good man.

  37. I was remembering Myron, while describing a formation flight we did in 1970 over Pembroke Ontario to promote our new airline Pem-Air. So I thought I’d look up Myron to see if he had a Facebook page. I am so sad to hear of his passing. I was one of his most loyal supporters. Myron always flew with a sure and steady hand. This was what I appreciated so much about him. His care and attention to detail while using his skills. My sincere condolences go out to you Carol and your family for your loss. The four of us flying that day in 1970 were Myron, George Staples, Bud Mason and myself, the only four pilots working for Pem-Air at the time. Pem-Air continued to fly for 28 years after its formation. We built well. Good memories! Myron was my co-pilot on a “critical incident” flight from Pembroke Airport when we lost some of the de-icer boot on our Beech 18’s left wing leading edge causing a severe drag on our aircraft. It happened after activating a de-icer boot at 6000 feet. We had to turn around and land back at the airport in an overloaded condition with a full load of passengers. I was glad to have a very competent Myron in my right seat that day!
