Victoria Shlah passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2007 surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Born in Mardin, Turkey she moved in her early childhood to Syria with her family and later to Iraq where she spent a good part of her life raising her family in Kirkuk. She immigrated to Canada in 1968 to be with her children. In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother she was a talented cook, baker, a loving host and an accomplished seamstress.
Victoria was predeceased by her husband George Shlah, her brothers George and Karim Dabbagh and later by her son Hikmat. She will be missed dearly by her son, Zuhair (Suad), son Fahmi (Silvana), her daughter-in-law Debbie and her daughter Muna (Jim) Christie. Her love, compassion and wisdom will be remembered fondly by her ten grandchildren, Brian, John, Dena, Zaid, Zena, Nadia, Natalie, Zachary, Najim and Ramiz. She cherished being a great grandmother for William, Victoria, Elizabeth, Nathan, Veda, Olivia, Rosalyn, Wesley, Sadie and Namir. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of the Sarcee Care West for the ongoing care and attention that she received during her long stay in their care.

Monday, February 26, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (402 Meredith Road N.E.) on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev.
