SHIER, Marion Alvina (nee Hage)

November 12, 1933 – Dahlton, SK
February 14, 2015 – Calgary, AB

Marion Shier, beloved wife of Ronald Shier of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the age of 81 years.

Marion was born to Alvin and Marie (Slind) Hage on November 12, 1933 on a farm near Dahlton Saskatchewan. She had many great memories of this close-knit community: attending Heimdahl School, skating, church camps, ball teams, her horse Daisy, growing award winning potatoes, and time spent in the Kid-Inn. After completing her education, Marion worked at the Co-op in Archerwill, Nipawin and Saskatoon.

In 1953 Marion moved to Calgary where she worked at Safeway. Through friends she met Ron in 1957, they were married on August 8, 1959 and were blessed with three children and three grandchildren. Marion worked tirelessly and selflessly to raise her family. She was active at the Lakeview Community and assisted with the newsletter for many years. Ron and Marion enjoyed curling, golf, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered as a very kind, caring and joyful person and will be missed dearly.

Besides her loving husband of fifty-five years, Marion is survived by daughter Sandra Williams; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Sandra Shier and Brian Shier and Maggie Naylor; three grandchildren, Sarah Williams, Kristen and Evan Shier. She was predeceased by her parents Alvin and Marie Hage and her brother Ernest Hage.

A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held at Northmount Baptist Church (451 Northmount Dr. NW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

In living memory of Marion Shier, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes. Condolences may be forwarded through

  2. Len and Elaine Sulima :

Dear Ron, “love your neighbour” and in Marion’s case, this was a easy commandment. Marion was a wonderful neighbour, friendly, positive and caring. I remember her and I having a laugh when I told her she was on GoogleMaps, standing in your garage doorway with her yellow garden gloves on! We have always enjoyed you and Marion. God bless you and your family at this sad time.
